Big news coming from the Clear Channel Camp this past week as CEO William Eccleshare announces his departure. Clear Channel also announced some pretty drastic increases in revenue during their Q2 earnings release. Check out the infographic SignValue put together below.
CCO Q2 Quarterly Report InfographicCCO’s Americas revenue increased by 36% while also decreasing their site lease expenses by 14.2%, that’s every operators dream right? This certainly helped their cash flow margins. Digital displays seem to be roaring with activity as their total digital revenue is up 73%. Billboard Insider also did a great summary you can read about here.
Programmatic to Bring New Advertisers to OOH
The way in which signage is being bought and sold is changing at a rapid pace. Many of the top OOH companies in the country are investing heavily in programmatic. We see this in Lamar’s recent investment in Vistar Media and also in Outfront’s recent appointment of VP of Programmatic Lead. The goal of programmatic is to automate the transaction process for digital signage. We expect this to bring new advertisers to the space who might have previously spent their ad dollars online with digital advertising. Another major factor that we see in the signage world is the way displays are being measured. Traditionally it has been difficult for advertisers to calculate an ROI on ad dollars spent on signage. Check out the first article on our newsletter for some very interesting news about a new measurement service that uses satellite and AI to measure traffic counts and traffic flow.
As measurement metrics are standardized over the next few years and accepted by both sign owners and advertisers we expect this to create a perfect storm in tangent with programmatic trading to bring some significant growth to everyone within the industry.

Summer Travel Expected to Exceed Pre-Pandemic Levels
Any big plans for your summer travel? According to research from OAAA & the Harris Poll Summer Travel is predicted to exceed Pre-Pandemic levels for more than Half of Americans. This reports that over 50% of consumers stated plans to travel as much or more than pre-pandemic times. Good news for our independent operators whose inventory footprint primarily targets Interstates, the report’s findings also state that “The car is still viewed as the safest mode of transportation (95%).”
If the findings of this poll end up as reality, then many of our readers will have already seen an increase in their bookings for ad space during the summer months. I would also imagine that OOH located near and around vacation destinations will see some of the strongest gains this summer season.
According to US News, these are the best places to visit in the USA. As a native Arizonan, I’m proud to report that the Grand Canyon tops the list. If any of our readers happen to find themselves in Arizona, please reach out, I would love to connect. According to CNN Business, Theme Park stocks are on fire at the moment. Disney recently reported that they plan to relocate 2,000 California employees to Central Florida. Many speculate the move is motivated by Florida’s friendly tax codes. What has been your experience so far this summer? Has advertising spend returned to your travel friendly locations?
